VVA is proud to let you know about Elise Mendelle solo exhibition which is happening from the 1st of February until the 1st of March in Stoke Newington at a venue called ‘A Mini Bar in Hackney’.
This is an art show with 12 of Elise's unique art pieces on display. Elise has a very minimalist and intensely expressionist art style that she brings to all her work, she keeps the typical features of the face completely out of the art work which is something that most artist don't do, artists are fascinated with rendering the features of the person because it helps with recognisability and for the typical audience to identify with the work easier, when there are no eyes, no nose, no lips all you can identify with are the messages being communicated by all the other elements in the painting, the way the hair is arranged, the pose of the figure, the placement of the limbs in a gesture which either communicate is silent defiance, inner strength, standoffishness or a relaxed energy. You are welcome to read into the meaning of her portraits.
